| At
the time of this writing I am laying poolside at one of my best friend's
home. It is 9:00 am Monday morning and the sun is preparing my body for
the four trips to the Caribbean and Mexico this next quarter. The majesty
of the 16,000 square foot home as it rises above the 12-acre lake, is a
significant reminder that we can live our lives one way, then tear up that
script, then live our lives another way. Dale and Stephanie Calvert's 4
million dollar, 100 acre estate, uniquely positioned next to Lexington Kentucky
Horse Park and directly across from Spindle Top, is absolutely one of the
most impressive pieces of property on the planet. In Dale's office hangs
a picture of a 600 sq ft house where he and Stephanie started their life
and family 20 years ago.
I gave you the snap shot not to impress you but to impress upon you that you are living your life exactly as you expect your life to be. The liberating thought is that quite simply with the decision to change, you can live anyway you wish, you can have anything you want, or you can become anything you wish. When I think over my life-working 16 ½ years, filling a position as a Sheet Metal Mechanic, eventually ending up in middle management, then deciding to leave that position and start over working from home, I realize that what I am sharing with you in this article is SOLID GOLD. A famous business philosopher, Mr. E. James Rohn often speaks of two types of people. The first person is the type who when introduced to a fine phrase or good idea receives that information, puts it into action and changes the world. The second person is the type that when exposed to the same phrase or idea registers it in his mind and continues to follow the same path, filling the same position he has always filled. I call this second type of person a "position holder". He or she conforms to the guidelines levied onto them by their environment. There is an ancient phrase that suggests that we become our own environment. When you take yourself out of the picture, stand back and look at your community or the society in which you live, you will notice a variety of position holders. These people represent public servants, lawyers, bankers, real estate brokers, small business owners, factory workers, postal workers, engineers, doctors, etc., etc. Recently, I attended a baptism of my nephew at the Villanova Chapel. Attending this ceremony were many distinguished alumni wearing a two-inch button with a number on it. This number represented the year they graduated. Talking with some of them, the first thing you realize is how proud they are of their alma mater. The next thing you discover is the positions they took in our society after graduation. They truly enjoyed returning to the place where it all began for them. Some had invested well and through their expression you could detect no stress, no fatigue, and they were 100% satisfied with the position they held. Yet others felt misled, misdirected, and concerned about the rest of their lives. Bottom line they were not happy with their position in society. This article is for those people whose lives have not turned out exactly like they had expected. For those people who hold positions and are not satisfied, I recently heard some lyrics to a song where the writer was on the exact same page that I am. The song talked about modern day salvage/treasure hunters and how the men of the mainland were drawn down to the sea to search for the treasures of the past. In this song he quoted, "Some men are born to be other men's slaves punching the time clock from birth to the grave." The reality is society pays positions not people. For example, if I were going to hire a secretary in South Carolina, I would research to find the average pay scale for a secretary in this region and I would fill that position based on that regional pay scale. The individual's knowledge, talents, and abilities would only determine where they start in that pay scale. His or her lifestyle would remain within the boundaries of the position of a secretary. If you are not happy with the position that you fill, or the way your life has turned out then perhaps logging on and completing the interview would be a step in the right direction. This website is owned by an individual who has broken away from his or her position and is expanding his or her life beyond any structured boundaries. Depending upon your qualifications, he or she may help you do the same thing. As I opened this article with a snap shot of Dale and Stephanie's life and my life, the constant reminder is that neither one of us have positions. Every person that I know who has the ability to do what they want, when they want, and with whom they want, have broken away from their positions, accepting the responsibility for their own success. Some people confuse freedom with a paycheck. In all reality, to receive a paycheck you must fill a position. Obviously, that position has clearly defined life taking schedules, salary ranges, required locations to live, and restrictions of personal expression. It truly is amazing as I travel and watch people perform like puppets on a string, fulfilling their positions, believing that their lives are as they should be, I realized that except for the grace of God there go I. Without being exposed to certain pieces of information in a certain sequence I may have never realized that I was simply a position holder in a bubble never being aware of the position therefore never being able to expand my life beyond the bubble. It has been said that human beings only think a couple of times in their lifetime. Historically, it requires an emotionally stirring event to jar us into reality and make us think. For example, an untimely death of a loved one, near death experience such as a heart attack or car wreck, or a birth of a child. When our environment is disturbed radically, shaking up our world, our instinct is to settle things down and create a new daily schedule so our environment is familiar and comfortable. My wish for the reader of this message is that you will take a moment to critique your life and ask yourself "What position do I hold and does society pay this position enough so that I may meet my life's expectations?". That you would not wait for one of life's emotional learning experiences to rock your world, to force you to think, and call you to action.
The difference between
reacting and responding is as measurable as the difference between light
and dark, hot and cold, and life and death. If the doctor tells you that
your body is reacting to the medicine, your first thought is major concern.
If the doctor tells you that your body is responding to the medicine, your
first thought is positive change or improvement. Don't react to this information
and please don't be mad at me for I am merely the messenger. Take a moment
to think, then
Our movie/interview is used throughout the entire home business industry. The worse thing that could happen to you is that you assume that you know who owns this site and what program they represent. Life giving/life changing opportunities present themselves to us everyday. Unfortunately, most people are so busy filling their positions that their minds are preoccupied and unable to determine the difference between opportunity and hype. I have found that it is smart when looking, look at everything and to never assume, prejudge, or negatively evaluate before having the facts. Because of this belief, I have made fortunes. I hope that you would follow by submitting your interview. Either way, I wish you the very best at whatever you decide is best for you. - Shawn Wheeland
